Starting counselling can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel a mix of curiosity, hope, or even a little nervousness. Your first session is designed to be a safe, supportive space where you can begin to feel comfortable and understood.
A Safe and Confidential Space
From the moment we begin, your wellbeing is the priority. This is a non-judgmental environment where you are free to share as much or as little as you feel ready. Everything discussed is confidential, creating a space where you can speak openly and honestly.
Getting to Know Each Other
The first session is about connection. We’ll spend time getting to know each other, who you are, what’s been happening in your life, and what has brought you to counselling. You don’t need to have everything figured out; we’ll explore things together at your pace.
Understanding Your Needs and Goals
We’ll gently talk about what you’d like support with, whether that’s anxiety, relationships, self-esteem, or simply feeling stuck. Together, we’ll begin to clarify your goals and what a meaningful change might look like for you.
Working from Your Strengths
Rather than focusing only on what’s difficult, we’ll also explore your strengths and your resilience, values, and the ways you’ve already been coping. Counselling is not about “fixing” you, but about building on what is already within you.
A Collaborative Process
This is your space, and we’ll work together in a way that feels right for you. You’re always in control of what you share and the direction we take. There’s no pressure, it is just a supportive conversation to begin your journey.
